Supplier

A Supplier is an individual or organization that provides goods, services, or resources to other businesses. In the procurement context, suppliers are external entities that fulfill an organization's requirements through commercial transactions governed by contracts, purchase orders, or other formal agreements.

The supplier ecosystem typically includes various types:

  • Manufacturers producing finished goods or components
  • Distributors aggregating products from multiple manufacturers
  • Wholesalers selling in bulk quantities
  • Service providers delivering professional or operational services
  • Contractors performing project-based work
  • Consultants providing specialized expertise

Effective supplier management is a critical procurement function that includes activities such as qualification, selection, onboarding, performance monitoring, development, and relationship management. Digital procurement platforms centralize supplier information and interactions to create a single source of truth for all supplier-related activities across the organization.
